Book Soundtracks

I think all books need soundtracks. I’ve always loved music, and I’ve always loved writing, so it makes sense to me to create “soundtracks” for my stories. The first one I made was for this horrendous–and very long–story my best friend and I wrote over the period of a few years. The “soundtrack” had lots of corny teen pop music, and I made it by recording CDs onto tapes on a boombox. Then I made another one. And another one. Over the years of working on Padmin I collected songs that I thought were fitting. It was–and still is–a fun process for me, because I love it when I hear a song that perfectly represents my story. I’m also slightly embarrassed by my corniness, so I probably won’t share the songs, but that’s okay.

You know what I think would be really cool? If authors could bundle a CD with their books. I know I would definitely love to listen to a book’s soundtrack. Who knows? Maybe bundling a CD with a book is in our future. After all, book trailers have become popular, so why not this?

Speaking of music, here are some inspirational lyrics to end on. As you can see, I’m a big fan of musicals.

How many times did I hear it? How many times did they try?
To somehow break my spirit, to somehow make me die.
“Huey, you’re odd, crazy and slow. Now much to look at–”
Well, maybe that’s so. They tried so hard to drag me down low.

Low_Res_PS_72DPISeventeen-year-old Blakely Caplan is counting down the days to college – until she and best friend Cameron enter a portal to war-torn Noríah. Revealed to be a descendant of the throne’s protectors, Blakely must harness the immense power of the Padmin Stone to unify Noríah’s resistance and defeat a dictator rumored to be aided by an evil goddess.

There’s just one small problem: Blakely can only access her powers through self-confidence, and she has never believed in herself.

Very few trust her. A traitor lurks in their midst. Inconvenient feelings for Cameron come to light. Blakely faces a choice as she takes up the mantle of her ancestors: believe in her own strength, or die trying…and let Noríah die with her.
